NYT: Can Exercise Keep You Young? (Gretchen Reynolds)

In addition to the myriad of physical and mental health benefits associated with exercise, apparently exercise also slows down the aging process. The study in this article showed mice that were genetically engineered to age/die faster (i.e. mice with defective mitochondria) could overcome their inferior genetics with exercise. The defective mice that exercised had less gray hair, greater muscle mass, healthier organs, etc. than the defective mice that did not exercise. Also, the non-exercising mice all died within a year, while their exercising counterparts continued going strong well after a year.

I keep on telling friends / family about this article with the hope that we can all become immortal demigods with enough exercise. At the very least, exercise might be able to save everyone some hair coloring money.

I totally agree with you. I walk 10,000 steps per day to keep myself young.
