I had a nice evening at a wine bar with my college friend Jamie sharing a trio dip and good conversation. She recently read a book called the Five Love Languages, which I've heard about but haven't read yet. The general gist of the book according to Jamie is that there are five different ways i.e. that people express love to one another: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. If I had to identify just one "love language" spoken in my family growing up, it would be Acts of Service. I remember packing up at the end of winter break to go back to college after a particularly difficult semester and finding that my mother had neatly placed all my hair pins on a paper holder so I could find them easily (until I scattered them all again). That small gesture to me said 'I love you, I'll miss you, I'm sad to see you go' more than any words ever could. The daily love in my family was mostly demonstrated through cooking and food, which may be why I do this food blog bit in the first place. I suppose I'm trying to figure out the best foods I can share with those that mean the most to me.

Comments: I try to eat as many vegetables in a meal as possible, and I find these to be a good addition to salads. It's inspired by the recipe below but I significantly cut down on the sugar in addition to a few other modifications.
