"Come on, come onIt's a melodic song but the lyrics are commanding, which keeps the song from being too sentimental. I've liked this song for a long time, but decided to youtube it when it came on my Pandora today. Based on the listener comments, it seems to have become somewhat of a theme song for the Egyptian protests. I can see this being a revolutionary song. Listening to it now takes on more meaning, as I imagine the thousands of young Egyptian protesters deriving energy and inspiration from the song's invocations to put their hands into the fire. There is actually another youtube video made of scenes of the Egyptian protests to this song, which I've also provided the link to at the bottom of the page.
Put your hands into the fire..."
I don't know enough about the Egyptian politics or the implications of these protests to choose sides. But the situation seems to parallel the American/French revolutions that sparked the major restructuring of governments in the western worlds. Protests begin when the people are fed up enough to topple authoritarian rule, but revolutions last when the people are strong enough to build better societies from the rubble. Has the tipping point been reached? Into the Fire, for better or for worse.

I was very unaware of Egyptian politics before their revolution, but based on the joy from their people right now it makes me very happy for them. I too hope they can form something better. This is the first time in my life when I'm educated enough to really appreciate the magnitude of something like this. It will be very interesting to see what comes of it. Tunisia too. And Algeria. And whoever else decides to go ape shit on their government.
