I am supposed to write 15 minutes a day in this blog to practice my writing. Obviously I have not been the most successful at this goal, but I am trying to be better. It's not difficult to spend 15 minutes writing an entry, but it is difficult finding what 15 minutes of the day to put aside for the task. I make up many excuses: I am too tired right now or too busy or have nothing to write... It's strange how sometimes it is hard to do even the things we really want to do.
I want to write well. However, writing well comes at the cost of practice and also a TON of reading. It's difficult to get it all in, especially with my school schedule right now. But if I had infinite time and willpower, I would do the following to improve my prose:
Reading
The news: with a perusal of at least three news sources.
A fiction piece
A non-fiction piece
I just subscribed to the New Yorker (in exchange for The Economist - sadness! but no more time to read that magazine), which offers both fiction and non-fiction pieces. I think 30 minutes of reading a day, would be the max I could afford at this point.
Writing
A blog entry a day
Essay competitions
Writing class?: this seems pretty infeasible time wise right now, but maybe something in the summer? Maybe something with a low time commitment?
15 minutes up!
